The WildKitchen

Our FAQs are intended to cover everything you may need to know about your WildKitchen, from design and build to timelines, materials and maintenance. If your query isn't covered here, please contact our Customer Service Team at customerservices@cashmerecaveman.com or 01747 442570.

Where can I put a WildKitchen?

The main considerations for a WildKitchen will be location (orientation, wind direction, exposure to high winds, exposure to salt water, proximity to trees, access etc.), a deck on which to site the WildKitchen, and power to the deck for lighting. Please arrange a consultation with our team by video call or in person to discuss your location.

Will I incur other costs other than the WildKitchen itself?

Cashmere Caveman Co. do not supply the decking or paving on which to install your WildKitchen, so this will be an additional cost to consider. Your contractor will also need to install the WildTent feet into the decking or paving before the installation can take place (these are provided to you after the order is placed). You will also need to run a power source to the decking to be able to plug the WildKitchen lighting in. Please be aware that delivery and installation charges are not included in the price of a WildKitchen. These will depend on the size of the WildKitchen you order and where you are located.

What are the decking requirements to support a WildKitchen?

To view our decking specification, please find these in the download section on the product page of the relevant WildKitchen. Alternatively, if you would like more information on the decking requirements for siting a WildKitchen, please get in touch with our Sales Team. Our in-house designers can also support with more technical queries.

Do you install decking?

No we do not install decking. We do provide full decking drawings detailing the requirements for a WildKitchen on a deck, and can also make recommendations for decking contractors within the UK.

Will I need power for my WildKitchen?

Yes, power is required for the lighting. There are various options for providing power to the WildKitchen including mains power and batteries for off-grid. Please contact our Sales Team for more information.

Can I only site a WildKitchen on a wooden deck?

The standard installation is onto a wooden deck, however we have also installed WildKitchens onto paving. This does require a different fixing and an assessment of the base to support the structure. Please contact our Sales Team to discuss this option further if you are interested.

Do I need planning permission to have a WildKitchen?

There is no single answer to this question. This will depend on where you live and your individual council's interpretation. Particular consideration should be given to e.g. listed properties, AONBs, proximity to boundary walls etc. Please contact our Sales Team if you wish to discuss this further.

What is included in a WildKitchen?

For what is included as standard with each size of WildKitchen, please view our comparison chart here.

What is the lead time for a WildKitchen order?

The lead time for a WildKitchen order will vary depending on the number of orders we have. All WildKitchens are made to order by our skilled team. We roughly work to a 12 week lead time, but this varies greatly by season so please discuss this with our customer team for an up to date estimate, or with any specific requirements you may have.

How long does it take to install a WildKitchen?

This will depend on a number of factors including travel, but once the materials and equipment are on the deck, we estimate a Single WildKitchen will take 1 day to install, a Double WildKitchen will take 2 days, and a Commercial WildKitchen will take 3 days to install.

What are the overall dimensions of a WildKitchen?

Please see the overall dimensions for all sizes of WildKitchen on the following downloads: Single WildKitchen; Double WildKitchen; Commercial WildKitchen.

Is it possible to amend the sizes of a WildTent?

Depending on the requirements, we are able to make some changes to the dimensions of the WildTent. It is hard to reduce the size of a Single WildTent and still accommodate the WildTable 12 and furniture. Please contact our Sales Team, who will refer you to a designer to discuss options and find an appropriate solution.

Is it possible to have a custom layout within a WildKitchen?

Yes , customisation is possible within the constraints of the overall space. Please contact our Sales Team, who will refer you to a designer to discuss what can and can't be achieved.

Can I use my WildKitchen in any weather conditions?

The WildKitchen have been designed to allow you to entertain outside all year round. However, safety and durability must be considered in high winds. Please view our WildTent User Guide to understand wind speed limits, as well as snow loading guidance.

What is the wind speed guidance for safely using the WildKitchen?

The WildTent is designed to work with the British weather, but as with everything, there are a few limitations. To stay safe during high winds, as well as protect the canvas and tent structure, extra precaution is needed. If winds are due to exceed 30mph (50 km/h), roll up the side panels to allow the wind to pass through. If winds are due to exceed 37mph (60km/h), roll up all side panels as well as the roof panels to allow the wind to completely blow through the structure.

What to do with my WildTent in a storm?

It is essential during high wind speeds that you take preventative action with your WildKitchen. Please read details on wind speed thresholds and associated action in our WildTent User Guide.

What is the snow loading guidance for the WildTent?

In line with our structural engineer's report, the maximum layer of settled snow on the roof panels must not exceed 130 mm (5 inches). When the snow load does exceed this threshold, you will need to either manually clear the snow, or remove by burning the WildTables to melt it from underneath.

How can I clean the canvas on my WildTent?

This will depend on the canvas that your WildTent is made from. Please contact customerservices@ccwildkitchens.com to discuss this further and appropriate guidance can be offered.

What is the Carbon Monoxide monitor for?

During the combustion of any solid fuels (e.g. charcoal and wood), carbon monoxide can be an unwanted byproduct. While the WildTable has been designed to draw emissions away from the table, and WildKitchens have inherently good ventilation, it is recommended practice to install the supplied carbon monoxide monitor within 3 to 6 metres of the burner and test the batteries regularly.

Do you offer a care plan for the WildKitchen?

Yes Cashmere Caveman Co offers an annual  Care Plan to assist with the ongoing care and maintenance of your WildKitchen. For more information, please contact sales@ccwildkitchens.com.

What is the WildKitchen Care Plan?

To ensure you get the maximum enjoyment from your WildKitchen year-round, Cashmere Caveman Co. offers a biannual Care Plan. As with all products that remain outdoors all year round, the WildKitchen will require maintenance and attention. During the visits, an experienced member of the team will visit and assess your WildKitchen to anticipate any repairs and replacements, replace any consumable parts that have expired, carry out routine maintenance and offer advice and support on how to best look after your WildKitchen. To find out more, please contact our Sales Team.

How often should I have the flue cleaned?

We recommend that the flue is swept by a chimney sweep once a year, as with any wood-burning appliance.

How do I clean the flue?

The flue can be accessed via the small door on the side, above the damper. Remove the oval flue filter to give clear access for an extendable brush to reach all the way to the top of the flue. The small section of flue below the damper is close enough to the firebox that the heat will ensure no buildup of residue here.

How to clean the flue filter?

To clean the flue filter / spark arrester, open the small door in the side of the flue above the damper, and remove the spark arrester (oval-shaped metal disc). This can be tapped on the side of the burner to shake off any loose residue or soaked in cold water for an hour for a more thorough clean. This should be done frequently. You will notice that it bends downwards towards the burner which is expected, but when reinserting it back into the flue, insert it the other way up, and it will bend back over time.
